This is a rare variation of the Colt Model 1878 Double Action Revolver in .45 Colt that was issued to the Philippine Constabulary Force by the U.S. Army. There were only 5,000 of these revolvers made in this configuration with the large trigger guard. this revolver is marked U.S. on the right frame and R.A.C. on the left frame and trigger guard. The initials R.A.C. are for the Military Inspector Rinaldo A. Carr. The metal condition is a grey patina and the original hard rubber grips are smoothed from wear. The bore is strong with some light pitting. The cylinder condition is good. The action is very loose with the half cock notch very worn. This revolver is mechanically unreliable and is not safe to shoot. The lanyard ring is missing from the butt. Even with these problems, this revolver is very scarce and belongs in a collection.
