Browning 1885 High Wall BPCR

Make: Browning, Made by Miroku of Japan

Model: 1885 High Wall BPCR

Serial Number: 08095NR2B7

Year of Manufacture: 1997 (NR date code)

Caliber: Originally chambered in .40-65 Winchester, rechambered to .40-82 Silhouette. A second barrel is included, chambered in .32 RKS (a proprietary cartridge developed by Ron Smith, highly regarded in Schuetzen and Cast Bullet competitions).

Action Type: Lever Actuated Falling Block, Single Shot

Markings: The left shoulder of the barrel is marked “BROWNING ARMS COMPANY MORGAN, UTAH & MONTREAL P.Q. / MADE IN JAPAN”. The right shoulder reads “BROWNING MODEL 1885 CALIBER .40-65”. The serial number appears at the lower rear of the receiver. The lever/trigger guard bears the Browning Buck Mark logo.

Barrel Length: 30” Half Octagonal/Round Badger Barrel & a 28 ⅞” round RKS Barrel chambered in 32RKS.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a globe with interchangeable inserts set in a dovetailed base. The barrel has two drilled and tapped holes behind the rear sight, and the top of the receiver has a pair of drilled and tapped holes for a Unertl-type optic mount.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The rifle features two-piece checkered select walnut with a schnabel forend, straight wrist, fluted straight comb, and a checkered Browning rubber buttpad. There are only light, scattered handling marks and no cracks or chips. The checkering remains sharp. An extra forend is included, presumably for the .32 RKS barrel. The LOP is 13 3/8” from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttpad. Overall, the stock rates in Excellent condition.

Type of Finish: Blued

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The .40-82 barrel has a bright bore with sharp rifling and no erosion. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 10/10. The 32 RKS Barrel has a bright bore with sharp rifling and no erosion.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains approximately 99% of its metal finish. There are no notable signs of wear, only faint handling marks. The markings are crisp, and all screw heads are sharp. Overall, this rifle is in Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The falling block action is smooth and locks up tightly. The trigger breaks cleanly and averages a pull weight of approximately 1¼ lbs. The mechanics are sound. We have not test-fired this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Notes: This Browning Model 1885 High Wall BPCR is a superbly equipped single shot rifle ideally suited for precision long-range shooting, silhouette, and Schuetzen competition. Originally chambered in .40-65 Winchester, it has been rechambered to .40-82 Silhouette — a cartridge that offers flatter trajectories and greater energy for long-range silhouette targets. The included Ron Smith barrel, chambered in .32 RKS, brings even more to the table. RKS barrels are widely respected in cast bullet and Schuetzen shooting circles for their precision and craftsmanship, and the .32 RKS cartridge is optimized for these disciplines.

This rifle is a testament to the enduring appeal of the High Wall action, which traces its lineage back to John Browning’s original 19th century design. Built by Miroku to Browning’s demanding modern specifications, it pairs timeless aesthetics with modern precision. From the Badger half-octagon barrel to the finely checkered walnut furniture, this rifle was clearly crafted with both performance and appearance in mind.

Whether you're an iron-sight silhouette competitor, a benchrest Schuetzen shooter, or a serious Browning collector, this rifle offers exceptional versatility and pedigree. The inclusion of a premium second barrel adds significant value, and its overall condition suggests it was cherished and used with care. This is a fine opportunity to acquire a top-tier modern single shot rifle built for match-level performance and accuracy.
