We have been honored uo have this exceptionally nice custom 1885 consigned for sale. This rifle was built by highly respected American Custom Gun Guild Member Roger Ferrell. This is one of Mr. Ferrell's personal guns and we received it directly from him. Roger's work is not often seen on the secondary market but other examples of his work can easily be found online.
The rifle is built around an original Winchester 1885 Winder Musket Low Wall action. The centerfire breech block was made by Ballard Rifle & Cartridge. Tang was bent to original pistol grip curve & sight holes on right side of action welded up.
Barrel is part octagon 28" long. Contour closely matches a Winchester #2. Bore diameter is 0.429" and was chambered with a PTG reamer.
Stocks are highly figured American Walnut in the design of an original "Special Single Shot" with small Swiss buttplate. Stock has correct ebony wedges in the forend and grip cap.
Rifle is equipped with MVA sights. There is a #130 vernier tang sight, combination front and a #115 globe with inserts not currently mounted.
All work on this rifle was done by Roger and it has been used for shooting and hunting... Georgia Whitetail and even South Dakota prairie dogs! Rifle has been well maintained during the 20 some years that have passed since it was built but does show some wear marks - mosly on the wood.
